Individual
schemes are generally referred to as either Certification
or Approval schemes.
Certification Schemes are those which are independently
assessed, accredited and monitored by the Irish National
Accreditation
Board (INAB). SSAIB is currently seeking INAB accreditation.
Approval Schemes are those which have not generally required
INAB accreditation, but which still require providers to demonstrate
compliance with relevant Irish or European Standards or SSAIB
codes of practice or associated criteria.

All Certification Schemes and Approval Schemes require
a competent management system to be in place. However, the
above schemes do not need providers to have ISO 9001 management
systems certification.
ISO 9001: 2000 management systems certification offers a more
formal approach to management and focuses on the business framework,
with an emphasis on the processes that create and control the
products and services a company provides. An effective management
system, which may be compliant with ISO 9001 requirements,
will provide a structured approach and help to clarify and
achieve business aims and objective. If required, SSAIB offers
ISO 9001: 2000 schemes designed to compliment its product certification
schemes.
